Ten years ago

There is a trending topic on Twitter at the moment called #10yearsago which got me thinking a bit about where I was and what I was up to ten years ago today, and it is a bit scary to realise how much has gone on.Ten years ago today I was up in London with Frankie for the millenium fireworks.  I went shopping earlier in the day to get him a bright yellow wooly hat so I wouldn’t lose him in the crowds – he must have been nearly eleven at the time.  While I was in the shops I got very tempted in the Tiny Computers shop and bought a PC.  Cost a fortune and was laughably puny compared to what I have now.

Since then I think I have bought at least six PCs and three laptops.  That may be a little excessive…   although they were not all for me.  Jayne has been through three or four different jobs since working in airport security, and I have had a couple of main jobs and a spell of temporary jobs.   We got married and watched the kids move up through primary school, into secondary school, and into employment.  Two of them have left home, one now drives a car, one rides a motorbike and one is engaged.  Somewhere along the line we managed to bacome grandparents too.

There were some bad times, but on the whole I reckon I have enjoyed the last ten years.  The next ten are likely to see Jayne and I adjusting to life with just the two of us at home but beyond that I wouldn’t like to speculate too much.

Yes right scary isn’t it. Ten years back I celebrated 2000 at Five Bells Buriton. Now ten years later I wonder how much time left on Earth, I shall be thinking about that more in the next ten years, scary no. As time moves on life gets shorter, I wish I was back in the past in the 80’s and 90’s, when I had my first pc’s and life was longer and I felt safer in my younger days. I reckon I will see the 2040’s begin, but beyond that no. Scary thoughts but they are simular to how you 2 are feeling and I agree with you totaly.
