Or even leave the country. This story from the Argus is practically an announcement for anybody who is a big girl’s blouse about spiders to move away. Surely one of the main reasons we put up with the miserable climate here is because it is the price to pay for not having the poisonous snakes and spiders you get in other countries.

But all spiders are venomous! Only a few spiders in the UK have fangs able to break our skin and even then very few bites have serious effects.

Actually, even I can see the sensationalism of the original story. Venomous does not mean fatal, but by saying that a venomous spider is “a relative of the deadly black widow” it plants that suggestion.
A bit like saying that somebody owns a poodle which is a relative of the deadly grizzly bear.
Mind you… sounds like you can vouch for domestic moggies being related to deadly lions!
