Quiz subversion

February 12th, 2011 · 3 Comments · Life, Politics

I’m putting the finishing touches to questions for the quiz on Wednesday night (fundraising for Horsham Labour – sold out but could maybe squeeze another body or two in).  I had a couple of brilliant ideas, which I am not going to incorporate in case they caused major civil unrest and/or ideological splits.

New toy time

February 12th, 2011 · Comments Off on New toy time · Technology

My printer has been playing up a lot lately.  Lots of error messages about the ink system failing, and it would also lock up a lot when scanning. I did a bit of research on the net and found that it was most likely a hardware fault that could easily be fixed with a couple […]

More zombieness

February 6th, 2011 · Comments Off on More zombieness · Life, Music

If the film Dead Snow didn’t whet your appetite for Scandinavian zombie-related artistic endeavours, how about this: the debut album from Swedish thrash metal band Zombiekrig, called UndantagstillstÃ¥nd is on Spotify. All sung in Swedish, but does that matter in this genre?  I spent a happy couple of hours watching Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth on […]

Only a few more hours

February 6th, 2011 · Comments Off on Only a few more hours · Life, Music

Only a little over three months after moving house, I finally got round to wiring up my amplifier to the DVD player.  Been meaning to do it for ages, but so far I have put up with getting the sound from DVDs through the TV speakers and have not had the urge to listen to […]

My current favourite unread author

February 6th, 2011 · Comments Off on My current favourite unread author · Life

Is it even possible to to have a favourite unread author?  I hope so, because I have a current favourite amongst all the authors whose books I have never read. In fact I will probably read a couple of his books now, once I have cleared the growing pile of books I already have in […]

Hiybbprqag

February 3rd, 2011 · Comments Off on Hiybbprqag · Technology

If I gave a monkey’s about traffic to this site [[actually I do.  I actively try to keep it to a manageable trickle]] then putting the word Hiybbprqag into a post title could be a way to do it, or at least it would have been yesterday.  The readership will now split into two: those […]

Bleak and harrowing

February 2nd, 2011 · Comments Off on Bleak and harrowing · Life

Earlier today I found what has to be the bleakest, most harrowing, and depressing website in the world.   It is the result of an 18-year photographic documentary project called The Julie Project. Have a look, but don’t blame me if, afterwards, you feel that a little bit of yourself has died.

Johnston Press changes

February 2nd, 2011 · Comments Off on Johnston Press changes · Life

I see that Johnston Press has plans to re-organise and do all their subbing for the south-east region from Horsham.  Locally this should not have any impact on the quality of our local papers, but I don’t think you can say the same for Portsmouth, Worthing or Hastings. Newsquest did the same thing last year, […]

Call me Dave

February 2nd, 2011 · Comments Off on Call me Dave · Life

I find this story both hard to believe and hard to understand.  It says that the TV channel Dave has lost a case and is no longer allowed to call itself Dave. On seeing the headline I thought it might be because some bloke called Dave launched a vexatious and entertaining legal challenge, but it […]

Payday for Crawley Town

February 1st, 2011 · 2 Comments · Life

Obviously Crawley Town are going to do well out of getting drawn against Manchester United, and the motorways going North will be full of coaches taking the home supporters up to Old Trafford from the home counties.  Apart from the prize money for getting so far there is the cut of the gate receipts and […]
