I watched a bit of Dynamo on television last night. Actually I watched a lot more than I intended because I always find magic shows to be quite compelling. One thing that kept being said by the people who witnessed his tricks was “that’s just not right”, and I kind of agree with them.
When watching magicians I find myself trying to work out how they did it. Some of Dynamo’s tricks defy explanation. Yes he might have rigged that mirror and then somehow forced the five of hearts on Samuel L Jackson, and I can see how the walking through the gate thing could theoretically be done, but some of the other tricks seem to offer only two explanations: either camera tricks and a complicit audience (which would be disappointing) or real, actual magic.
I don’t think either of those is true, which means Dynamo must just be very, very good indeed. Possibly too good if real magic is the only way some of them could be done.
And a good Bradford lad he is too…..
