Chrystal’s AA membership card arrived in the post today. I figured that the cost of adding her onto our membership was a small price to pay for some peace of mind when she is off in her little and ancient car.  The irony is that the card arrived today, a day after the car broke […]

Those little moments you live for

Last wednesday Chrystal passed her driving test. By Friday she had found a little cheap runabout that she liked the look of so we went off to look at it.  During the drive there Jayne was driving and I was riding shotgun. Chrystal was in the back where we couldn’t see her. I happened to […]
Further on down the road

What a day! Chrystal passed her driving test, at the first attempt. Well… first attempt at the practical anyway: the theory took two bites. The first one was close though – I encouraged the girl by telling her that the result was not a fail but that she nearly-passed.

We went down to Worthing today.  The main reason was to get some shoes for Chrystal (there is a Brantano shop there with a decent choice of large sizes) but really it was an excuse to go to the seaside too, and get a Sunday roast at the Warwick. After lunch we walked round the […]

My tiny car is now a tiny bit smaller.  I set out today to get signatures on my nomination papers for the forthcoming local elections and got rear-ended at some traffic lights. I have had someone roll into the back of me in traffic queues before, with such slight a impact that there was not […]

Damn Top Gear and damn Jeremy Clarkson! Until last week I had decided that, in the unlikely event of me winning the lottery, I would rather fancy having as a day-to-day runabout one of those new Fiat 500s. Although it would be hard to resist an Aston Martin, Merc or Jag in the garage I […]

What great timing! Buy a new camera on Friday and then on Sunday 500 photogenic veteran cars pass within a few hundred metres of home. Some years I forget that the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is happening: this year I made sure to catch it.
Car Jamming

Believe it or, if you must, believe it not but one of the most popular posts I have ever written in the four years or so I have been doing this is this one about hip punishments back in April 2006. It did not attract many comments but overthe years there is hardly a month […]
