There are some things that are so obvious and ingrained that you don’t notice them until they are pointed out, after which you can’t not see them again. The difference between how accidents caused by bicycles and accidents caused by car drivers are reported is one of those things.

On the road again

Yes, its the long-overdue reprise of using song titles as blogpost titles! I was reading an article in The Times today. I shan’t link to it because it is behind the paywall and it is not so much the article itself as the comments that I was interested in. I really should stop reading comments […]
A sign of the times

I saw one of these in a car the other day… On the one hand its a clever way to mount a phone in your car, using the now-redundant CD slot to hold it. on the other hand it just makes me feel old. It only seems like yesterday that CDs were the future and […]
The car in front
September 13th, 2017 · Comments Off on The car in front · Life
I think I remember that there used to be a series of adverts with the punchline “the car in front is a Toyota”. Yesterday I drove about 250 miles, mostly on motorways, which is about 250 miles more than I would normally drive in a day and I realised that the old adverts were actually […]
Road casualties in Crawley and Horsham
November 24th, 2011 · Comments Off on Road casualties in Crawley and Horsham · Life
First of all I must heartily recommend this post from the As Easy As Riding A Bike blog. It is an analysis of road deaths and injuries in Horsham, based on information from the ITO website’s road casualty map. The rest of the blog is well worth a look too. It would be interesting to […]

This bit of motorway madness is unbelievable – especially the idea that this happened back in January but when the vehicles came to a stop and the police attended, neither driver told them exactly what happened. More here. You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video
Subheadline of the week

I can’t find any way to read this story from The Register without my mind boggling. The headline is eye-catching enough (Florida woman prangs car while shaving her privates) but the subheadline is pure genius.
From each according to their ability…

I did like what I read in this story from Switzerland. Basically, a bloke got a speeding ticket and was fined £182,000 for doing 55mph in a 55mph zone. It might seem a bit harsh, but the amount was decided based on the man’s ability to pay and not the scale of the offence. Some […]
Snowbound

Our car has not moved from where it was abandoned parked on Friday – halfway down our road, pointing uphill. Actually that is only half-true. The truth is even worse, and a little more embarrassing. I did move it on Saturday morning. I got it far enough uphill to turn around, then I went off […]

Passing the test
December 4th, 2009 · Comments Off on Passing the test · Life
The Crawley News is reporting (though not on its website) that it is harder to pass your driving test in Crawley than anywhere else in Sussex.  This is backed up by statistics showing that the pass rate is lower than elsewhere. Of course this could just mean that drivers in Crawley are worse (it might […]
