Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

I did enjoy seeing Metallica on Jools Holland last week. I’m especially glad that I watched the Friday show after having seen the live one because they played totally different songs, as did Carla Bruni and Sway. ((I was impressed by Sway))  Kings of Leon might have played different songs but I would have found […]

The Disappointed

September 21st, 2008 · Comments Off on The Disappointed · Music

Anyone unfamiliar with the history of Yes might think that a situation where the band were going out on tour with, not their original line-up but their most famous/successful line-up, except for the keyboard player being replaced by his son and the singer replaced by a tribute player was complicated.  Of course we know that […]

Yes’s 40th anniversary tour that was cancelled when Jon Anderson was unwell is back on again – but with a new lead singer. In a case of life imitating art imitating life they have roped in the singer of Yes tribute band Close To The Edge to be Jon’s understudy for the tour.

Some Kind Of Monster

August 31st, 2008 · Comments Off on Some Kind Of Monster · Music

Driving home from a visit to the old folks today (Hi Mum!) I heard a tasty track played on the radio that had all the hallmarks of vintage Metallica – and it was indeed a new Metallica single at 19 in the charts.  It almost made up for the dreadful congestion.

Block Rockin’ Beats

August 31st, 2008 · Comments Off on Block Rockin’ Beats · Music

This evening I made my fourth trip to London this year, this time to go up to see a concert.  It was a bit of an experiment really because it was to see the Chemical Brothers.  I have one of their albums and like it well enough, but I’m not a huge fan, and I […]

Renegades Of Funk

August 25th, 2008 · Comments Off on Renegades Of Funk · Music

I saw something about the Reading and Leeds festivals the other day which listed the line-ups and I saw RAge Against The Machine there.  I didn’t even know they were back together again, but apparently they re-formed last year.  Their first album is still one of my favourites. What an impact that had when it […]

Jay-Z-gate

June 28th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Music

I have never been to Glastonbury, but I shan’t let that stop me having an opinion about the controversy that Noel Gallagher kicked off regarding Jay-Z headlining the festival.  Unsurprisingly, I can’t see anything wrong with it, not that I was terribly excited by seeing his name on the bill.

Dave Grohl really does seem to be the collaborator of choice these days for surprise guest appearances at concerts.

Vote For SPIZZENERGI To Play At Green Man Festival 2008!!! The Green Man Festival ((a great web site design – check it out)) is running a competition, well a couple of competitions really. They are letting bands who are not on the bill register on the site so that Joe Public can vote for them. […]

Fields of the what??

May 8th, 2008 · Comments Off on Fields of the what?? · Music

As a result of having bought some concert tickets online in the past I now get all sorts of regular e-mails from ticket agencies and venues and I’m used to seeing old names in the forthcoming attractions and thinking “are they still going?”.  This week I got something from the Carling group about whats coming […]
