Following my false alarm when I thought my iRiver had died, I did actually take the plunge and I invested in a Creative Zen. I use the word ‘invested’ with fingers crossed, in the hope it will turn out to be as good a buy as the iRiver was.

Disaster averted
July 2nd, 2008 · 3 Comments · Music, Technology
I have been listening to my iRiver on the way to work. Its good to start getting some use out of it again and, although its a bit quirky and idiosyncratic, I still really like it. I can’t remember if it is now four-and-a-half or five-and-a-half years since I got it but it is still […]
Feeling Tatt-y

Jayne already thinks I am making it up when I say that I have mild restless leg syndrome, so I don't think she is ready for me to hypochodriacally claim to have tatt. And I think she is right. Tatt is shorthand for 'tired all the time', and while that is true for me the […]

In the Navy
March 29th, 2007 · Comments Off on In the Navy · Technology
Earlier on this evening I was reading about the Navy’s new Type 45 destroyers on Wikipedia. Alongside all the military jargon about the stealth-like features, radars and missile systems is the information that these are the first class of warship to include e-mail and entertainment systems, including iPod charging points. Obviously my first reaction is […]
The cult of Karl

I am a late arrival in this whole podcast thing. The first one I ever listened to was one of the Spizz podcasts last month – I won’t link to it right now; for some reason all his sites seem to be down at the moment. I had seen all the publicity about the Ricky […]
Lost in (e)music

I have now been using the emusic site for a couple of months and have downloaded some real treasures. The thing is that even though I am happy with what I have got, and satisfied that its good value for money, I shall probably ditch it in a month or two. At the moment I […]
Random?
October 12th, 2006 · 4 Comments · Music, Technology
On the way home today I was reminded, and very strongly, of an article in the weekend's paper about the randomness of an iPod's shuffle. Combining, as it does, discussion on high-tech gadgets, music and mathematics, I was particularly drawn towards that article which was about how some iPod owners get suspicious of the random […]
Free music!

There has been a bit of a stir caused by a new music site called eMusic which is supposed to compete with Apple's iTunes site. Having seen sites like Napster, Wippit, Coke music and all the rest come along and fail to make a dent I am usually resistant to the hype, but I thought […]
Another disaster
August 17th, 2006 · Comments Off on Another disaster · Music, Technology
A couple of weeks ago I had a slight mishap with my trusty old iRiver. While it was in my overnight bag en route to Doncaster it got bumped and the clip broke off of the remote control. This might sound trivial, but it was so convenient to leave the MP3 player in an inside […]
Dead car
May 24th, 2006 · Comments Off on Dead car · Technology
My car died yesterday. I had a meeting in Reading and decided to drive there instead of taking the train. I very rarely drive at all and just felt it would make a change. Us having a new MP3/WMA-capable CD player in the car may have had something to do with. I know I have […]
