Today I went on a day trip to Dorset for the last day of the Tollpuddle Martyrs Festival. It is a long way to go for a day (nearly three hours each way on the coach) but plenty of people came from even further away and it was a good day out even if it […]

Come on down
July 16th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Life, Work
It is going to be a (slightly) historic day on Monday. The tall chimney opposite County Oak in Crawley is coming down. Over the last couple of weeks we have enjoyed watching various mechanical monsters chewing up the factory building next to it, and now we are ready for the main event.

Not meeting new friends

On Sunday I went up to London for the day.  The official reason was to meet up with some other Labour activists, bloggers and general good-eggs but I made sure I got there early so I could do some sight-seeing and visiting of old haunts. I think it is the first time I have been […]
Crawley from above

Earlier today I saw a description of how to do fake tilt-shift photos, using aerial photography from multimap and a website called TiltShiftMaker, so I thought I would have a go. The results are not as good as using a proper tilt-shift lens. They are not even as good as taking a decent high-res photo […]
A bite of history

Meet the ancestors – literally!, originally uploaded by Whipper_snapper. Flickr is a great place for discovering excellent photos, but sometimes the story behind them is even better – like this one about somebody coming across his great-great-great-great-grandfather’s bones in a rural churchyard.
Getting worse

I worry that young Rojo may be turning into a problem cat. His fondness for water and getting wet generally is quite amusing – it really is fun to see him hop into the empty laundry basket and pester us until somebody pours a jug of water on him, but I don’t think it is […]
un-Seat-ed

On Friday afternoon I got the phone call I had been half-expecting: the insurance company called to say that my car is not worth repairing. A shame really. With the very few miles I actually need to drive it is hardly worth having a car, but I got used to having this.
Shameless

Young Rojo seems to have no shame. His favourite position for relaxing, and even sleeping is on his back with legs spread wide, and losing his testicles hasn’t changed his habits at all. Photo included for proof. And he is still fascinated by water and loves getting wet. There is something not right about him, […]
Walkies

Having got up fairly early (for a Sunday), got the dinner ready and bubbling away, and mowed both front and back lawns I decided to go and take my cameras for a walk. For a change I went to the Leechpool and Owlbeech woods. The place is supposed to have lots of nature, and sure […]
Gratuitous holiday snaps
March 4th, 2009 · Comments Off on Gratuitous holiday snaps · Life
Just for the sake of it, here are a few holiday snaps from last month.  I took something like 350 photos during the week on the new camera. There were also about 100 pictures on the old compact before Charlie managed to lose it. About 150 of them are up on Flickr now. I can […]
