Redwatch

July 17th, 2006 · 10 Comments · Politics

The other day I noticed a surge in visits from a site called Redwatch. Surge is probably over-stating it a bit: as at yesterday I had 16 hits from 9 different IP addresses. Not much of a surge really. More of a blip. But I thought I would head over to Redwatch to see what […]

Phone rage

May 16th, 2006 · Comments Off on Phone rage · Technology

Somehow I missed this story from last week. Ok, so its yet another story of Shia/Sunni violence in Iraq, but in this case it was probably justified and has an amusing side. Basically the speaker of the Iraqi parliament is a Sunni and was being interviewed in a corridor. An MP who is a Sunni […]

Vote blue get red, white & blue?

May 15th, 2006 · 4 Comments · Politics

Fortunately that is not the case everywhere, but there still seems to be a significant number of BNP supporters hiding within the Conservative ranks, as the story of the Rev Robert West shows. In a statement, Mr West said: "I have decided to seek refuge from political correctness by applying for asylum with the British […]

Mosque Clock

May 9th, 2006 · Comments Off on Mosque Clock · Life

I know that Islam is a matter of faith and not ethnicity, but even so… Go to the Mosque Clock site and have a look at the “about us” page, and I just get the feeling that the pair in the photo are not devout muslims, but Essex boys at a fancy dress party. Apologies […]

St. Nicholas, Worth

May 9th, 2006 · 2 Comments · Life

I think it is fairly well established that I am not at all religious myself, but I do enjoy having a look around the Ship Of Fools website from time to time. It is a Christian site, but light-hearted and often amusing. Those who are involved in it are obviously secure enough in their faith […]

Religious education?

March 27th, 2006 · Comments Off on Religious education? · Politics

Unlike Antonia, I was shocked to read this piece in the Guardian today. I imagine she had already heard about the UK Life League and their tactics for terrorising schools and clinics, but up until this morning I thought this sort of thing only happened in America. On the way home this evening I came […]

Ecumenical

March 25th, 2006 · Comments Off on Ecumenical · Life, Politics

We had a bit of a delay this morning. The Labour party had booked the church hall at Broadfield, but had to wait outside as the previous hirers were over-running. The previous hirers were a Quranic class. In the Christian church hall. I think its a great example of how well we all get along […]

BNP Activity in Crawley

March 18th, 2006 · Comments Off on BNP Activity in Crawley · Politics

The BNP have been delivering some especially nasty leaflets in Crawley recently. Copies have been sent to the Town Hall and to Sussex police, as some recipients feel that they are offensive enough to be illegal under electoral and normal laws.

Those cartoons

February 3rd, 2006 · Comments Off on Those cartoons · Politics

Honestly, I didn’t find them offensive – but then I’m not culturally equipped to react that way as a reflex. Intellectually I can see how and why they were found offensive though. On the other hand, I didn’t find them in the least bit funny. Give me Dilbert any day of the week!

Richard Dawkins. Again

January 27th, 2006 · Comments Off on Richard Dawkins. Again · Life

I caught the end of Horizon tonight. It was all about the Dover school board case where concerned parents fought to keep intelligent design off the syllabus. I had only been watching for a few minutes when Richard Dawkins popped up doing his irate atheist bit, and it occurred to me that he could be […]
