Its all very well having a surround amp and speakers and then getting a machine which can play DVD-A and SACD – and I am really appreciating listening to an album in 5.1 instead of 2.0 stereo – but its a bit frustrating only having two albums to play, or 3 if you count the Fleetwood Mac one which only works in Dolby Digital.
I really do need to get more SACDs or DVD-As but really there is nothing out there which appeals enough at the moment. The problem is that if I have a DVD-A I can’t rip it to my PC for listening to on the train, so that makes new albums less attractive, and I really don’t want to be getting duplicates of stuff I already have.
So I was quite chuffed this week to find that Jean-Michel Jarre is releasing a geatest hits next week which comes on CD and DVD-A and its all new re-recordings with different mixes. So its new material, well-suited to surround, but with a CD as well for copying to the iRiver. I was also quite excited about the prospect of Kraftwerk re-releasing all their best albums and doing so on CD, Vinyl and SACD – individually and as a box set. Although I already have them all except Computer World, I expect they would sound so good on SACD that I could be tempted to fork out on the whole box set of SACDs.
While looking at the Jarre album on Amazon UK I noticed that I am currently in the top 200 reviewers there, with 276 helpful votes on my 43 reviews. Maybe its a bit sad, but I consider that quite an achievement.
Another thing which is a bit sad is Mirror Sites. I could not resist putting a link to it on my own web site. It serves no earthly purpose, is only funny for a few moments and then the joke is used up, but I still just had to do it.
