How does the cat know?
Since it is past midnight, this is now officially my birthday, so the cat has just come in and presented me with a dead mouse. I have had to throw him out and lock the cat-flap so he does not bring it back in again after I have gone to bed.

Happy birthday!
And be thankful for small mercies. My mum’s cat thought bringing dead animals into the house was for wimps. He liked to bring us live animals: not just mice but rabbits too.

Happy birthday! It was very friendly of the cat, and it’s the thought that counts…

Happy birthday!
You do know that, as head of the house, you were meant to take the first bite – you’ve probably hurt the poor cat’s feelings. 🙂

It was spooky rather than friendly. He has not brought in any wildlife for ages and then springs a mouse on me on the birthday. Uncanny.
I don’t think he was too upset. When he brings in a mouse which is essentially undamaged I take them away from the house and release them when they have recovered. This one was beyond help so I gave it back to the cat for his supper – outside.
At least when I said “oh you shouldn’t have” I really, really meant it!

The cat is an improvement on your rubbish big sister who spent the whole day on Thursday reminding herself to send you a card – and forgetting. I then spent the whole day Friday reminding myself to email you – and forgot again. It’s your fault for having a birthday at the beginning of the academic year…..
