Boris

There is a monthly magazine called Word. In this magazine is a regular feature called ‘word of mouth’ in which various celebs talk about their favourite books, films, music and (sometimes) gadgets or websites. Not very original, but interesting nonetheless. This month, one of the contributors was Boris Johnson, and although I don’t have a great opinion of him, I can identify more with his choices than with anyone else in this month or in previous months. How did it happen that I seem to have more in common with Boris (a Tory MP) than with Mick Fleetwood, Minnie Driver, Nicky Wire, Ian Broudie or Chris Smith?

Boris listed Evelyn Waugh, Carl Hiaasen and Homer’s Illiad under books, Apocalypse Now, Jaws and The Godfather under films and The Clash and Rolling Stones under music. Maybe not exactly what I would have chosen, but closer than anyone else has got. (For the record, I would probably go with Sherlock Holmes, Robert Rankin, Gang of Four, Yes, Apocalypse Now and Roberto Rodriguez.)
