Today was my last duty as Treasurer of the community centre. It was the public meeting where those few interested members of the public come along and vote in a new general council, so I had to present the accounts for the last financial year.
I have had the various printouts and bank statements around the house for weeks now, but only got round to sorting it all out in the last couple of days, as the deadline was fast approaching.
I don’t really have accounting skills, so it was a relief when the vicar found a volunteer in his congregation to take over. He at least knows how to knock up a balance sheet, which will be a real advantage as a lot of grant-giving bodies (like the Lotteries Commission) want to see balance sheets now.
Its going to be a lot less stressful now. I can still help out with the centre, and will continue to update and improve their web site, but I won’t have any obligations. It also helps that Jayne is no longer the chair (the Chair is limited to a three-year term) so we are not going to be getting so many calls at odd hours every time the place is burgled.
