Brightonomicon and Sussex Stationers

If the phrases “Its a tradition or an old charter or something”, “some call me Laz”, “stout stick”, or prolific mention of sprouts, morris minors, the occult and the Chiswick Townswomens Guild ring any bells for you, you will know what I am talking about.

Its the new book by Robert Rankin. Priced at £12.99 but only £7.99 in Sussex Stationers.

I only got this book today and got as far as the first chapter, but its looking good. To make a change from Brentford, this book is set entirely in Brighton, so it is of some local interest.

Already I have learned that the street plan of Brighton was influenced by a Victorian magician so that the roads would be in the shape of the 12 signs of the ‘Brighton Zodiac’.

I also picked up the new Iain M. Banks book, The Algebraist, for a mere £4.99. The Sussex Stationers shop is not laid out terribly well, and does not have the most extensive selection of books, but you can’t knock its prices. I may browse Ottokars and Waterstones to see what is new, but I will then pop round to buy it from Sussex Stationers if they have it!

No – they are not paying me to say this, but if they happen to notice and want to send me a copy of the new Terry Pratchett in gratitude…
