I have been thinking about Police Community Support Officers, or PCSOs lately. You see a lot of them around now and they are starting to get more accepted.
So isn’t it about time we had a nickname for them?
The police have quite a few nicknames ranging from the offensive (the filth, pigs) to the affectionate (bobbies, boys in blue) and the neutral (the bill, old bill) via the archaic (rozzers, peelers) and some specialist ones (the sweeny, woodentops) but so far I have not heard anything specific to PCSOs.
I can think of a couple, based on their initials, but my favourite is PiCSies or “Pixies”. The campaign to get PCSOs called ‘pixies’ starts here!
The Council’s Neighbourhood Wardens is a bit more of a challenge though.
