Stevie Wonder

After watching the coverage of America’s Live 8 concert early in the week (yes. It does seem a lot longer ago than a week doesn’t it?) I decided to check that I had all my Stevie Wonder CDs ripped to the computer (and therefore the iRiver)

I had the main albums on there already, but had missed off the Greatest Hits, so copied the tracks on there which were not on any of the ‘proper’ albums. While I was doing that I was looking through the little booklet and could not believe that Stevie Wonder had his first greatest hits album out in August 1968!

It was also amazing to remember that what many think of as his best work (4 albums from Talking Book to Songs In The Key Of Life) was all released over a period of 4 years. In fact he released three of the albums over an 18-month period, and in total released 12 albums during the 70s.

I can’t help thinking of Elton John, who also released all his best work in a short time, with a prodigious output, and hasn’t really matched that quality or quantity since.

Maybe musicians do their best work when they don’t have too much time to spend on it?

(And no – I didn’t bother to copy I Just Called To Say I Love You or Ebony & Ivory.)
