The world is divided into two camps: those who have never heard of The Tubes and those who thought they had given up years ago.
Fortunately they are both wrong. The Tubes are still touring quote extensively in the US. A few years ago they played a one-off in London which I took Jayne to see. She hated it, and I was a bit disappointed that it was not as extravagant as their 1970’s and 1980’s stage shows, but the music was still OK and I enjoyed it as much as all the other middle-aged blokes there while Jayne chatted to their equally-bored wives.
I had to remind myself just how big they were as a live band. They sold out the Hammersmith Odeon for an entire week and played a couple of shows at Knebworth back when the only other people who could fill the place were Led Zeppelin, Genesis and bands like that.
Last year the band visited London again on their Wild West Show tour, but I didn;t go and see them, and now there is a live CD of the London show and also a Region 0 DVD of the concert.
I have ordered the DVD on Jayne’s behalf for my birthday…
Best news of all is that the band are coming to Europe again this November, including several dates in the UK. I think I will go this time.
