Good consumer experience

I recently bought a new digital camera from Amazon. I haven’t really been anywhere or done anything much since then and have not really had a chance to use it.

Yesterday I took it with me canvassing as I wanted to take some photos of the shops at Broadfield Barton, to show how run-down the parade is, and it stopped working. I thought maybe the battery had not been charged properly or something, but when I got home and investigated, it was well and truly knackered.

I went onto the Amazon website’s returns page, which generated a label and barcode for me to print out to return the camera. An hour or two later I had an e-mail telling me that a replacement would be sent ASAP. When I got home from work today there was another e-mail telling me the replacement had been posted – they don’t wait to receive the faulty item back before sending a replacement: instead they say the original needs to be returned within 30 days.

Obviously Amazon just sell stuff, they are not responsible for the odd dud, but its good to see them not quibbling at all or trying to fob the customer off to the manufacturer. As a technique for getting repeat business it works a lot better than my experience of xxx car dealers!
