Today was the day we paid our visit to my family in Essex. We may have picked the worst day of the year to do this: the most direct route is via the M25 and the Dartford Crossing, which means we caught the queues for the A2 (people going to Bluewater) and the queues for Lakeside on the New Year’s bank holiday. It was a relief to get to the relative calm of the A127.
When we arrived at Mum’s bungalow in Wickford the place seemed very full what with both my sisters being there with their husbands and Mary’s three kids as well, but I bet it was a lot worse at Bluewater or Lakeside.
