African Cup of Nations

February 10th, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Life · No Comments · Life

I caught hardly any of the African Cup on Tv this time round, despite the generous provision of coverage, but two things which I did see stand out.

Mido getting substituted was brilliant television. Most players do not like being substituted, but Mido took it further than everyone else by having a stand-up row with his manager and having to be physically dragged back to the dressing rooms by two huge men. The fact that the man who replaced him scored with his first touch just made it even more special.

The other thing was the result of the quarter-final between Ivory Coast and Cameroon. The match ended as a one-all draw and went to penalties. Both teams scored their first 11 penalties.

Lets just think about that. Both teams scored their first eleven penalties. Every single player on both sides, including the goalkeepers, took a penalty and scored. It was only as they were taking their second penalties that Cameroon slipped up.

Any chance of getting the Ivorians or Cameroonians to come round and give England a few tips before the World Cup in Germany?
