There have been a few articles in papers and magazines about the recent demise of the magazine Smash Hits, the latest being in this month’s Word magazine.
Given that I am quite into music and was in my 20s during the 80s I should be getting all misty-eyed and nostalgic about this, but the truth is that I never read a single issue of Smash Hits. I just assumed it was aimed squarely at the teenage girl market, and now I discover that the thing was actually quite tongue-in-cheek.
I suspect I would have quite enjoyed reading it, and now its too late anyway, so I am kicking myself.
Most of the people involved at the beginning have dispersed to positions all over the rest of the media, and I appreciate the things they have done since Smash Hits, so there is no reason to suppose I wouldn’t have liked it.
I will just have to catch up on the Smash Hits blog.
