Vote Skuds!

March 10th, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Politics · No Comments · Politics

Tonight we had the central selection event for the May elections. This is where those branches who did not select a candidate at a branch meeting for whatever reason get a candidate selected for them by the executive committee.

All the seats we already hold have, by definition, a sitting Labour councillor, and all of them want to stand again, and were re-selected by their branchs , so what was left over for tonight were the seats we don’t hold and have less chance of winning. But nothing is impossible – we have a secret weapon…

Yes, its Eugene! Nice to see the chap again.

While us candidates were chatting outside the meeting he kept gettting mobbed by girls asking for his autograph, which he handled very well.

Its a shame he is saving himself for marriage, because he is a veritable fanny-magnet, as we used to say in less politically correct times.

Eugene got selected for the most winnable of the four seats but I think that any of them would have become the most winnable seat as soon as he got selected. He is quite possibly the most well-known person in town, but quite unaffected by it all.

I also got selected, despite having persuaded my wife to vote against me. She didn’t take a lot of persuading as she wanted to have me available to help her campaign in Broadfield South, which I will be doing anyway, but now I have another area to campaign in as well.
It should be fun. Expectations will be low, but there is no seat which is unwinnable, and if the Tories get as complacent in their safe seats as we were in ours we could get a result. At the very least I will see what I can do to get the Labour vote up a bit.

So if any of the Labour bloggers in the South-East are ever at a loose end at a weekend, they are always welcome to come along and keep me company knocking on doors and delivering election addresses.
