here are two things going on at the moment which leave a nasty taste in the mouth – quite apart from the outbreaks of violence when the BNP launched their campaign on Sunday. First of all there is one story which will be in all the papers. It is already in the Argus today (and […]

Gratuitous photo

I have not illustrated a post for ages so the whole site is looking a bit bland. Time for a gratuitous photo to brighten it all up. This is the pond/lake in Milton Mount Gardens. I got so carried away tweaking the photo that it now looks unnatural, but I still like it.

No its not another great-name-for-a-band (although I think it would be a great name for a band) but an observation on the town planning around here. You are plodding along, delivering leaflets along a main road and turn off to do a close off of it. It only looks like a small close with perhaps […]

The oxygen of publicity

There is a big debate about how to treat the BNP, running alongside the debate about why they are getting what support they do, and how to tackle that in the longer-term.
The Simpsons

The Ricky Gervais-scripted episode of the Simpsons was on Sky One this evening, and I don’t think it really justified all the build-up. It was OK – after all it is the Simpsons – and had a couple of good lines, but hardly a classic. It did not have me laughing as much as the […]

West Ham are off to Cardiff for the second year running. Last year it was the Championship play-offs: this time round its the FA Cup Final, with a place in next year’s UEFA Cup competition already guaranteed just for reaching the final. What a difference a year makes. It was good to see them get […]
Torchwood

When Queen Victoria announced that she was setting up something called the Torchwood Institute at the end of Doctor Who today it rang a bit of a bell as the name of the mysterious weapon used to ‘do a Belgrano’ on the departing aliens at the end of the Christmas special, but I didn’t think […]

I found a book on my shelves which I had not read. I remember picking it up for a quid at the remaindered bookshop in Waterloo a few years ago and starting to read it, but for some reason I stopped halfway through the introduction. I decided to give it another try and see why […]
Another dodgy cable box

What is it with Telewest and their distribution cabinets? I was enjoying a small gloat this morning when I went past the one in Guinness Court and saw that it was still in one piece after I reported it as damaged in January and it got repaired. As far as I know the door had […]
