I was reading about Gerald Ford today. Not being a political anorak, and being only 11 at the time, I did not realise that when he took over from Nixon it was after he had previously taken over from Spiro Agnew, so he wasn’t elected at all.
Anyway, I came across a quote of his which must be the least controversial statement ever made by a politician. I defy anyone, whatever their political beliefs, to disagree with this (attributed) quote:
Things are more like today than they have ever been before
Its so shallow it is almost deep.

Hmm, this is a bit tenuous but the best I can think of…
Believers in eternal recurrence take the view that things have been exactly like today an infinite number of times in the past.
But personally, I’m with Gerry on this.

Tenuous indeed – but I just knew somebody from B4L would have to have a go.

You could try posing it as some kind of question on Question Time – if the panel is diverse enough they will tie themselves in knots to avoid agreeing iwth each other?

I call it ‘history repeating itself’ – and as we all know : one thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history.
