No Pasaran – they shall not pass

October 4th, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Politics · No Comments · Politics

The Battle of Cable Street happened on 70 years ago today, on October 4th 1936, when the East End working classes prevented Oswald Moseley’s British Union of Fascists from marching through their streets.

The anniversary is being marked by various events on Sunday 8th, including a procession along Cable Street, street theatre, musical performances, and a photography exhibition. There will, of course, be a Unite Against Fascism stall there. The venue is, obviously, Cable Street (nearest tube is Shadwell) between 12 noon and 4pm.

The whole thing is being organised by the Cable Street Group and Alternative Arts. As far as I know the London Riot Re-enactment Society is not involved.
