TV Heaven

November 15th, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 3 Comments · Life

I go through long periods of hardly watching any television, which is silly considering the huge bloody set I bought. I often leave it on, tuned to a music channel or comedy channel as background, but might only actually watch a couple of specific programmes.

I think I may have to change all that: either TV is a lot better than I had thought or the schedulers have just decided to give me a real treat this week with such things as:

  • Spurs getting beaten by Reading on Sunday
  • Planet Earth with that remarkable lions vs elephants bit
  • Spearhead from Space.
I saw on the EPG that Dr. Who was on BBC Three or Four and assumed it was yet another repeat of the new series but it was the classic one with the Autons in. Two episodes with another two to come next Monday.
  • Torchwood continuing
Nowhere near as good as I hoped it would be, but it has its moments.
  • Tate Modern
Tonight was the second half of Tim Marlow’s guide to the re-hang at the Tate Modern. Compelling stuff. I really must get round there to see it all while I can.
  • Crow Road
The first two parts of the four-parter were on BBC Four tonight with the rest to follow next week.
As a special bonus it was followed by an interview with Iain Banks.
  • Lost – recap tomorrow night and series three starts on Sunday.
  • The Aristocrats
On Film Four last night. Made me so glad I didn’t go to see it in the cinema or buy the DVD. Literally a one-joke film but only two of the many comedians made it funny. One of them was a cartoon and with the other one it was as much due to the circumstances and response as the delivery.
  • Dom Joly
Only caught by accident. I had never heard of it before, but his trip through the Southern states to New Orleans was gently hilarious.
  • This Life
I haven’t been watching it. It would seem wrong to do so when I have the box set in the cupboard, but good to know its there. Why did they wait ten years, and until I had bought it, before repeating it?

The Planet Earth episodes have been amazing – would you have saved the penguin chick? Surprised you don’t like Torchwood – I’m thoroughly enjoying it – but nothing will ever be as good as Doctor Who!

I don’t find Torchwood bad. Just not as good as I hoped it would be. It gets diminished for me by its inconsistancies, both internally and with Dr Who.

That and the pimped-up Range Rover.

  • Jane Skudder

Yeah. We are enjoying it too but it is a funny sort of Top Secret ‘outside of government’ agency has it’s name written all over their car… But I am looking forward to the explanation of the pteradactyl.
