Partially processed

February 10th, 2007 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 2 Comments · Life

It is probably not a good idea to dwell too much on the methods used in modern food production, but the current bird flu-related events in Suffolk are making some level of exposure unavoidable. Plenty of people have commented on how the film of Bernard Mathews’ facility shows how the place is much more of a factory than a farm, but this business about the partially processed turkeys being shipped from Hungary was an extra little disgusting touch.

Just how much nastiness is implied by such a simple phrase as “partially processed”? The more you think about it the closer to being a vegetarian you become.

I find the whole thing a bit weird but will follow the old Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall line of eating less meat but making sure it is better meat. Does that make sense? In most cases we are going for happy chickens (well, up until the point when the stereotypical Enid Blyton style farmer wrings its neck which a cheery whistle…..)
