Memory Almost Full

June 6th, 2007 · Posted by Skuds in Music · No Comments · Music

You can tell that Paul McCartney has moved away from EMI/Parlophone. Today I downloaded his new album Memory Almost Full from eMusic as a DRM-free MP3. (Not only DRM-free, but without all the encoded personal data which has been discovered in iTunes DRM-free tracks, and cheaper too)

It does make a change for eMusic to have a new album available from a major artist on the day of its release. Lets hope this is the start of a trend.

Its quite a pleasant listen as well. Paul McCartney is always going to suffer from failing to produce anything which matches Band on the Run, but this is not bad at all. Ironically most of the best tracks sound like Crowded House.

I have only played it all the once, but so far I can say that I like That Was Me (a bit rock & roll-y), Ever Present Past (the most Crowded House-like track of them all), Only Mama Knows (sounds like Wings from the Venus & Mars days once it gets properly started), Vintage Clothes (very catchy), and the first and last tracks: Dance Tonight and Nod Your Head.

Maybe not vintage McCartney but far from useless – the best album I have heard from him since London Town in 1977 or 1978. But what do I know? I think I am the only person to actually rate London Town that highly.
