The story about driving test fraud today explains a lot. How many times do you see examples of total fuckwittery on the roads and ask yourself “how did they ever manage to pass a test”?
I had just assumed that some lucky drivers had got their licence free with a box of cornflakes, but it turns out that thousands of people are paying up to £500 to have someone else take the practical test for them.
You would have thought that £500 would buy enough driving lessons for anyone to pass the test themselves, and if anyone can’t learn to pass a driving test after that then maybe they are just not good enough and should take the bus and make the roads a safer place for the rest of us.
While I am not a big fan of ID cards, this whole thing sort of destroys the argument that we don’t need any sort of ID card because the driving licence already effectively functions as a de facto ID card. It turns out that it doesn’t even work as an ID card for driving tests.
