Brrrr…

April 7th, 2008 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 2 Comments · Life

We do like to talk about the weather don’t we?  I try to resist the temptation, but its hard when you get a day like today. This was the view out of our back windows today. Proper snow.  Not a light dusting that is there in the morning but disappears after an hour or so, but piled up 7 or 8cm on top of the car.

Its hardly severe weather, but a bit unusual being the first heavy snow I can remember down here in the last few years and coming in April.   Jayne is starting to rethink her plans to go off camping for a few days with her sister and the kids…

Not sure how much good its going to do the garden either.  I’m no expert on plants but our spiky plant, which has been christened ‘Spiky’ in a fit of  anthropomorphic unoriginality, looks to me like it belongs in a warmer place than this.

Tollgate Hill looked pretty neat today.  I should have taken some pictures of it, but I didn’t really fancy going down that hill and back up again with all that weather going on.  I even forgot for a moment that all that snow is just a flood waiting to happen when it all melts.

I’m told that snow almost acts as an insulation blanket for the plants – but they can get bent and broken by the weight. I bet you had the same as us though – a fantastic fall of snow but all melted in an hour or so….
We were glad it went quickly on Saturday morning as we were out campaigning for Friends of the Earth – my first foray into politics… If you like you can see the evidence on Flickr!

Nope. The snow was settled thick in the morning and stayed all day, while it continued to snow heavily all afternoon. This morning a lot of it was still there, especially on my car.

Nothing compared to the 60s and 70s of course, but the first time in ages it has stayed for a day. And by this evening it was all gone, and it was a pleasant evening to go out canvassing for an hour or so.
