Strange times in the football leagues at the moment. Â I took advantage of having Setanta yesterday and subjected myself to their overwhelming yellowness to watch Man City and Chelsea, where City found that having billions of pounds behind them is not going to immediately propel them into the top four of Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and, […]

Let Me Entertain You

Young Rojo continues to entertain in that relentless way that kittens do. Â The other day he turned up with some indelible black stains around the neck and on one ear. Â Either he found an oil puddle to play with or has been crawling under dirty cars.
Shooting Star

The round-up of the Paralympics on the BBC tonight showed a bit of the shooting competition, where Matt Skelhon won a gold medal. I hadn’t seen coverage of Paralympic or Olympic shooting before – possibly because it is one of the least TV-friendly sports so doesn’t get shown much
Where Did You Sleep Last Night?

I feel a tiny bit guilty about the football last night. While many people are complaining that the England game was not available on free-to-air channels, I had it on Setanta but didn’t watch it. Obviously I’m regretting it now.
Firestarter

A fire in the Channel Tunnel is once of those disaster scenarios we didn’t want to see, but it looks like it all got handled pretty well. Personally I find it quite reassuring that whatever systems they have in place worked to detect the fire, extinguish it and evacuate staff and passengers without loss of […]

Yes’s 40th anniversary tour that was cancelled when Jon Anderson was unwell is back on again – but with a new lead singer. In a case of life imitating art imitating life they have roped in the singer of Yes tribute band Close To The Edge to be Jon’s understudy for the tour.
I Love The Sound Of Breaking Glass

My favourite quote for today comes from comedian Jim Jeffries, talking about performers who lose their temper with an audience. He says: Sometimes people throw things at the stage, even at good gigs. That’s why all comedy clubs have plastic glasses. The British aren’t really responsible enough to drink out of glasses; we’re the only […]
Keep On Running

One of the things that have always made laptops an unattractive proposition for me is the battery life. Every leap forward in battery technology has been matched by ever more power-hungry components so that the average laptop now packs up even quicker than the first ones did. They were supposed to offer freedom to move […]
Hard Headed Woman

I’m not too keen on this Sarah Palin woman, and for so many reasons. Her pregnant daughter, however, is not one of them. As far as I am concerned that should have no relevence to the election or be any reflection on Palin. Even her habit of choosing names for her children that Frank Zappa […]
Three is a Magic Number

My computer upgraded itself to SP3 of Windows XP tonight. I don’t think it has anything new for me – I probably already had most of the bits and pieces as updates anyway, but that didn’t stop it taking ages to install. Really I just let it go ahead to stop the machine nagging me.
