Best job in the world

February 4th, 2009 · Posted by Skuds in Life/Work · 4 Comments · Life, Work

At the risk of turning into the Horsham Today RSS feed by posting three snow-related things in a row, the end of the last post reminded me of something. It may well be an urban myth because it sounds too good to be true, but somebody at work told me about the best job in the world a while ago.The way it was explained to me was that there was a person whose job was to clear the snow off the runway at Gatwick .  This was a specialised job, requiring knowledge of the operation of the ploughing equipment and probably training and certification in its use, so not just anybody could do it.

The downside was not being able to book holidays in winter, but the benefits were eight or nine months of virtual inactivity.  It involved maintenance of the plough and regular tests to make sure it started up, but otherwise it was like being a professional Santa Claus.

It does sound too good to be true, but it would be nice to think there is somebody spending the summer months sunbathing on the cabin roof of his snowplough, wondering how he managed to win so big in the great lottery of employment.

Is it the best job?  Any suggestions of what could be cushier?
