On Thursday I actually had the TV on during BBC’s Question Time. I had my back to it and the sound turned quite low, so I wasn;t really paying attention to it until near the end when I hear Dimbleby mention that they were in Colchester. I thought to myself “I wonder if my old […]

Come on down
July 16th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Life, Work
It is going to be a (slightly) historic day on Monday. The tall chimney opposite County Oak in Crawley is coming down. Over the last couple of weeks we have enjoyed watching various mechanical monsters chewing up the factory building next to it, and now we are ready for the main event.

I have been getting free stuff from Amazon through their Vine Programme for a while now. In that time I have had quite a few books to review, some CDs, DVDs and software and even a couple of hairdriers, but this month I really hit the jackpot, to the extent that I am almost jealous […]
New sounds

One thing that has torpedoed my intentions to catch up on music I avoided the first time round is the sudden flurry of good new music on Spotify. This week I have listened to the new albums by Amadou & Mariam and the Dead Weather, plus a new single from Arctic Monkeys. All very good, […]

Help wanted – from Labour Party members
July 15th, 2009 · Comments Off on Help wanted – from Labour Party members · Politics
My constituency party currently operates on the time-honoured branch/constituency model, with the constituency general meetings being for delegates from branches.   We are thinking about the pros and cons of moving to all-member constituency meetings where any member can attend and vote instead of only having delegates from branches voting. I am familiar with the all-member […]

Golden Earring

Torchwood: Children of Earth
July 14th, 2009 · 5 Comments · Life
From what I have heard and read, a lot of people who have not seen Torchwood before, or who had seen it and didn’t like it much, really liked the recent five-day series, so you can only imagine how it was received in this house where we are all fans of the first two series. […]
Not meeting new friends

On Sunday I went up to London for the day.  The official reason was to meet up with some other Labour activists, bloggers and general good-eggs but I made sure I got there early so I could do some sight-seeing and visiting of old haunts. I think it is the first time I have been […]

On Saturday not only was I up before 10am but I was out and about: in Broadbridge Heath to be precise. I met up with some colleagues from Horsham Labour Party to go knocking on doors.  For a change we were not asknig anybody to vote for us, but just to support us in one […]
