Funny how these things happen. Jayne went to a party on Saturday night and one of her sister’s friends was saying how she had a kitten they couldn’t keep any more…  Seems that they already had a dog, the kitten’s mother and the kitten’s older brother. When the cat had a litter they were persuaded to keep one of the kittens by their daughter but decided they just couldn’t manage after all.
Since we were thinking about getting another cat anyway, it was a no-brainer to go round today and interview the kitten about her suitability for our vacancy. Not that there was a great deal of doubt about the outcome. We did, after all, go round there with our cat box.
Rojo’s reaction was a little disappointing. We thought he would be delighted to have a new companion, especially as it is totty and not competition for alpha male status, but there was quite a bit of hissing on both sides. Our fingers are crossed that they will soon get used to each other.
The ironic and annoying thing is that Rojo just sits there and watches next door’s cat, Sammy, walk into our house whenever he feels like it and eat all his food without lifting a paw. It is going to be an interesting couple of days watching Rojo and the new cat get the measure of each other.

You have no idea how much this touched my heart-strings …

Of course – you have recently lost a puss yourself haven’t you?

Awww, she’s a cutie. Sorry to hear you lost one – that’s always a sad time. As for the name – Diablo?

If i am being formal, Rojo’s full name is El Diablo Rojo so that is already taken.
We have settled on Chiquita as a name, though that was a bit of a mistake – I was thinking of ‘Conchita’, the nickname used through out that Luis Bunuel film about the Mexican kids. (Los Olvidados I think)
