Since I re-started buying vinyl I have found myself buying LPs by artists that I had previously overlooked to a greater or lesser extent.
For example, I used to have a 10CC single (Good Morning Judge) but that was it. Now I have 5 LPs. Even more extreme is Al Stewart. I used to have the one single back in the day (The Year of the Cat, Obviously) and a couple of years ago I bought the CD box set re-issue of the Year of the Cat album. Now I seem to have 11 albums by him – and they are all fabulous.
And then there are artists where I have never owned a single thing by them. Not in my old vinyl collection, nor a CD, or even a cassette. I now have more than one LP by Patrick Moraz, Little Feat, Montrose, Joachim Witt, Robin Trower, and Joni Mitchell.
This is the top ten of artists I now have several LPs of, where I previously had nothing at all, except maybe the odd track on a compilation, if that.
- Bruce Springsteen (7 LPs)
- Steely Dan (6 LPs)
- Robert Palmer (5 LPs)
- Focus (4 LPs)
- Marillion (4 LPs)
- Gerry Rafferty (3 LPs)
- Grace Jones (3 LPs)
- Manfred Mann’s Earth Band (3 LPs)
- Utopia (3 LPs)
- Simply Red (3 LPs)
