We went into town today to pick up our tickets to Live 8 from the O2 shop, and while there we had a little look at the HMV sale. I picked up a DVD called Happy Tree Friends Volume 1: First Blood for only £3.99
Looking at Amazon I see that this came out in September 2003. Before that these short cartoons have been available on the Internet, and still are.
I really can’t believe that this has been going for so long without me being aware of it! I really am losing touch with popular culture. I love quirky grown-up cartoons like Ren & Stimpy, Family Guy, and all the rest so this is right up my street.
I also can’t believe that Amazon are selling this for £15.99. There are 14 cartoons on the disc, plus some extras, and each episode is less than 2 minutes long, including the opening and closing titles. The actual episodes are not much more than a minute long. £3.99 is plenty to pay for that.
If you are as out of touch as I am, catch up and have a look at www.happytreefriends.com, but only if you are not offended by ultra-cute cartoon characters with names like Giggles, Cuddles, Petunia and Splendid The Flying Squirrel enjoying a carefree happy time before dying in the most graphically violent and messy ways possible.
