The Third Policeman

May 3rd, 2006 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 3 Comments · Life

I have just finished the 3-hour ‘Lost’ marathon (two episodes on C4 and next week’s on E4) and it has not really made anything any clearer.

There was a prominent glimpse of a copy of Flann O’Brien’s book The Third Policeman at one point. Apparently when this episode was shown in the US and Eire there was a bit of a run on the book, with it selling more copies in a week than would normally be bought in a year.

I think I may have to re-read my copy of it.

I do hope the relevance is something more than just the whole Incident at Owl Creek-type plot device. That would make sense of a lot of things, but I would personally find it a bit of an anti-climax. Maybe its just a red herring, but I do remember that the book did feature a strange, industrial sort of place where something obscure but vital was done. I’m ashamed that I cannot remember the book in any more detail, what with it being one of the best books every written and all that.

Haven’t seen the third episode yet, but just a warning not to investigate the “Hanso Foundation” adverts if you’re trying to avoid spoilers.

I need to avoid spoilers. If I knew something I would live in fear that I would accidentally mention something to Jayne and she would mutilate me.

She has only just forgiven me for telling her, halfway through season 1, that season 2 was being filmed, thus spoiling her expectation of some sort of conclusion in the near future.

Oddly, I thought everything was very clear after the second episode. And then the third episode revealed that everything I’d assumed about Desmond was entirely wrong.
