Yesterday I went around Broadfield visiting members of the Broadfield Labour Party, especially those who joined recently or who we have never seen at at any meetings.
In the case of new members the purpose was to give them a personal welcome to the party.
For other members the purpose was to find out why we don’t see them. Some people join the party and only want to show their support by being a member and paying their subs, and this was not an attempt to bully them into getting more involved. Rather it was to find out if there are any members out there who do want to become more involved but are prevented for some reason – maybe our meetings are at inconvenient times or do not appear interesting enough.
With all the senior members of the party seemingly intent on playing silly buggers in Westminster Village it was refreshing to meet representatives of the silent majority in the party who seemed much more sensible.
