I don’t know whether I have upset the Labour party or just disappeared off its radar or what, but I heard something funny today.
A friend of ours wanted to join the Labour party but does not have a bank account – more common than you might expect in this part of town – so she gave me the cash for her membership fee and I wrote out a cheque to send with the application.
Today she got a phone call from the party asking if she knew who I was, where I lived, etc. Quite a lot of questions, considering they should know perfectly well who I am, but it was not until the lady mentioned Jayne’s name that they were happy, despite the fact I have been a member a lot longer than her and was a councillor for them for four years.
I must work on being less forgettable!
Or maybe they think I am trying to gerrymander the local branch, since that is the second time I have written a cheque for a member without their own bank account and our boys’ subs also come out of my account?
