I like learning new words. Today I learned about a word called ‘soteriology’ which is, apparently, a branch of theology that deals with salvation. Its going to be tough trying to shoehorn that one into casual conversation or a blog post!

World Party
May 6th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Music
There is no full line-up for this year’s Croydon World Party yet, but the headliners on July 12th have been announced as the Stereo MCs. On the following day there is a mela. Not so far to go for anyone who is going to miss the Crawley Mela this year.
Foiled again

It was a cunning plan. I have a day off today, extending the weekend to a four-day break, and I thought I would beat the usual bank holiday rush by not taking all my accumulated rubbish to the tip over the weekend and doing it today. It must have been a good idea because hundreds […]

Its like the 70s again!
May 5th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Life
Hot weather and sunshine for all of the May Day bank holiday weekend? Thats the sort of 70s revival I can live with! I was so disoriented I even did a bit of light weeding while wondering why gardening is only 5% tending the plants you actually want and 90% waging war against the ones […]

Green, green grass of home
May 5th, 2008 · Comments Off on Green, green grass of home · Life

In the week before election day we received a newsletter through our door which was definitely illegal for one reason and possibly illegal for another. The question is whether anything will come of it.
Good news for some of us?

Every cloud has a silver lining. Those of us with a house on the market in the Home Counties will be the few beneficiaries of Mayor Johnson’s election, as those with any sense flee the capital while there is still a transport infrastructure for them to use for their escape. Time to put the asking […]
Compare and contrast

In 2005 Ken Livingstone spoke about the July bomb attacks in London. It was a mighty speech which ended like this: I know that you personally do not fear giving up your own life in order to take others – that is why you are so dangerous. But I know you fear that you may […]
The benefits of union membership
May 1st, 2008 · Comments Off on The benefits of union membership · Work
There are many benefits of trade union membership as I am always telling colleagues at work, trying to get them to join up. I tell them all about the legal protection offered, extra benefits gained from the company, the pensions advice, the discounts on all sorts of goods and services, and all that but I […]

Don’t wait up
May 1st, 2008 · Comments Off on Don’t wait up · Politics
No point waiting up for the Crawley election results; the count is not until tomorrow morning. Its not a popular decision with many candidates or activists, but I think its one of the best things the council have done.
