Tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow…

May 5th, 2010 · 3 Comments · Politics

…creeps in this petty pace from day to day to the last syllable of recorded time. Etc. etc. Nearly all over now. There is a lot of talk about this being a significant election, about the possibility of massive change in the system.  There are hundreds of soi disant experts and each has a different […]

Oops I’ve done it again

May 5th, 2010 · Comments Off on Oops I’ve done it again · Politics

Hot on the heels of his speech to Citizens UK, Gordon Brown has gone and made another excellent and inspiring speech – could have done with it all a bit earlier, but better late than never eh? This time he has gone for a long speech that is packed with soundbites.  I think my favourite […]

Make it so

May 4th, 2010 · 6 Comments · Politics

Had a great day today.  This afternoon was so good it even took my mind off the £160 it was going to cost to get the wipers fixed on our car – the linkage had broken – because we had a celebrity visitor in Crawley town centre. Not just any celebrity visitor but Captain Picard […]

Gordon on top form

May 3rd, 2010 · 1 Comment · Politics

A lot of people are, very rightly, impressed with Gordon Brown’s speech to Citizens UK today and a lot of them are asking why he was not so impressive during the leaders’ debates.   Could it just be that he is more suited to the 10-minute speech format, while Cameron and Clegg are more comfortable with […]

Hustings #3

May 1st, 2010 · Comments Off on Hustings #3 · Politics

Tonight was the last hustings of the election, which is probably just as well.  Each one has been on a larger scale than the last and I wouldn’t like to think of anything larger than this one. I had a feeling it was going to be one of those days when I turned up at […]

Hustings #2

April 30th, 2010 · 2 Comments · Politics

In the Horsham part of this general election hustings are like buses: you wait ages and ages and then three turn up at once. Yesterday we had the event in Crawley Down and at lunchtime today it was Collyer’s school in Horsham, where the audience was not only younger but also considerably larger.

Hustings #1

April 30th, 2010 · Comments Off on Hustings #1 · Politics

Yesterday we had the first hustings of the election which, at just seven days before election day, is maybe a bit later than normal to be starting this sort of thing. Not only was it the first one of this election in Horsham but the first one I have ever done myself.

Not just a rubbish idea

April 25th, 2010 · Comments Off on Not just a rubbish idea · Politics

I’m still a little staggered by this story of Cameron’s latest big idea – to force a new Prime Minister to hold an election if they take over mid-term.  This is a bit rubbish, but read further and you will find not only other rubbish ideas but one in particular that is extremely worrying.

Leaders’ debate lack of interest

April 24th, 2010 · 1 Comment · Life, Politics

I have to admit I wasn’t paying full attention to the second leaders’ debate on Sky News.  This was partly due to Sky’s even-worse-than-ITV production,  partly due to the blatant bias towards Cameron, but mostly due to having this sort of thing going on at the same time… You need to a flashplayer enabled browser […]

Mid-Sussex candidates

April 24th, 2010 · Comments Off on Mid-Sussex candidates · Politics

Obviously David Boot, the Labour candidate is the best in Mid-Sussex, but he doesn’t have the best name of the seven.  That accolade must surely go to the candidate from the Monster Raving Loony William Hill party: Baron von Thunderclap.  In fact that might be the best candidate name in the country, or has anybody […]
