I was reading about Gerald Ford today. Not being a political anorak, and being only 11 at the time, I did not realise that when he took over from Nixon it was after he had previously taken over from Spiro Agnew, so he wasn’t elected at all.

Sussex Police Authority

Jayne and I went along to K2 for the six-monthly public meeting of the Sussex Police Authority. After the chaos and disorder of last week’s constituency meeting, where I believe I offered several people “outside” at one point, it was relaxing to go to a relatively calm meeting. Of course, the presence of 3 or […]

Today I learned how you are supposed to pronounce ‘Moleskine’. I also found out that it is, strictly speaking, a proper noun, and I found out what it is. I have seen it written down and today realised that I didn’t actually know what it was, so I looked it up. Apparently is is pronounced […]

The Oregon Vortex
October 6th, 2006 · 3 Comments · Life
Thanks to a passing reference in Robert Rankin‘s new book, The Toyminator, what I learned today is about the existence of a place called The Orgeon Vortex. It is a place where the normal laws of physics do not apply, according to the publicity. Sadly, some of the mystery is taken out of it through […]
Toilet Circuit

One thing I learned today is that there is a name for the network of small venues in Britain for smaller bands on tour, and it is called the toilet circuit. I'm a bit suspicious of this though. I think someone is pulling Wikipedia's leg. I have been going to concerts of all sizes for […]

Thanks to a clue in the quick crossword in today’s Guardian, I learned that leprosy is also known as Hansen’s Disease. I also discovered that most of the things we all ‘know’ about leprosy are wrong.

What I learned on Friday

I learned that sometimes a government IT project does come up with a real improvement. Our car tax runs out tomorrow and I have been sitting on the reminder for weeks. Having left it to the last minute I decided to try the online renewal instead of queueing at a Post Office. I just went […]

This building is probably my favourite new building in London, and now that it is nearly complete all the scaffolding has come off and it can be seen properly at last. Already a couple of floors in the middle look to be occupied, as I can see from the window of my morning train. It […]
What I learned yesterday

As we had a briefing for the management team, I learned a lot of things about our financial prospects and expected project milestones which is all confidential to our company or our partners, so I'm not going to repeat it here. At the same meeting I also learned that the company is, yet again, going […]

What I learned today
September 26th, 2006 · Comments Off on What I learned today · Life
Even if we don’t realise it, we do learn something every day. Granted we may only be learning triva somedays. Maybe we need to train ourselves to recognise when we are learning something. I am always surprised if I ask the kids in the evening what they learned at school and they say “nothing”. Anyway, […]
