Yellow Peril

September 15th, 2008 · Comments Off on Yellow Peril · Life

Back moaning about Setanta again.  Before watching the Man City/Chelsea game I had left the TV tuned to Setanta for their equivalent to Sky’s ‘Soccer Saturday’ programme.  I don’t think I will be doing that again.

Match Of The Day

September 14th, 2008 · Comments Off on Match Of The Day · Life

Strange times in the football leagues at the moment.  I took advantage of having Setanta yesterday and subjected myself to their overwhelming yellowness to watch Man City and Chelsea, where City found that having billions of pounds behind them is not going to immediately propel them into the top four of Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and, […]

Where Did You Sleep Last Night?

September 11th, 2008 · Comments Off on Where Did You Sleep Last Night? · Life

I feel a tiny bit guilty about the football last night.  While many people are complaining that the England game was not available on free-to-air channels, I had it on Setanta but didn’t watch it.  Obviously I’m regretting it now.

Payin’ The Cost To Be The Boss

September 4th, 2008 · Comments Off on Payin’ The Cost To Be The Boss · Life

So…  Kevin Keegan has quit Newcastle, just a day after Alan Curbishley quit the Hammers.  It looks like they both went for more or less the same reason: they have the traditional view of a club manager being in charge of everything but their clubs are going with the continental system of having directors of […]

Arabian Knights

September 3rd, 2008 · Comments Off on Arabian Knights · Life

What an eventful day the last day of the transfer window was in the end.  As usual a lot of the action and most of the speculation concerned Tottenham in one way or another but it was Manchester City who grabbed the headlines, first for being taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group, then […]

Wipe Out

August 31st, 2008 · 3 Comments · Life

One downside of going out today was that I did not get to see the football results until way after the final whistle, and missed seeing the highlights on Match of the Day, on the day that the Hammers finally came up with a decent result in the league and annihilated Paul Ince’s Blackburn Rovers.

Ibhola Lethu

August 16th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Life

Ibhola Lethu is “our football team” in Swahili or some other African language.  I think.  Anyway, its the title of a song by the mighty Johnny Clegg and his band Savuka and appropriate for speculation about this new football season and particularly the fortunes of not only the Hammers but my team in the Guardian’s […]

Forgotten Ground

July 25th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Life

For the last couple of days there has been a group of caravans parked up in the big layby outside the Broadfield Stadium.  Is this the group of travellers who have been in town for several weeks now, setting up home in Maidenbower, Three Bridges, Furnace Green, Southgate, etc.? No.  I think they are visiting […]

Only a month to go now…

July 16th, 2008 · Comments Off on Only a month to go now… · Life

August 16th – West Ham v. Wigan.  An interesting start to the season.  So far there have been no eye-catching new signings, just an Icelandic defender, but if half our invalids are fit for this year it will be like having a whole new team anyway. One the other hand, we have lost Zamora and […]

They think its all over…

June 30th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Life

Looking back, it could be that England’s failure to qualify for Euro 2008 was a major factor in making the whole tournament so enjoyable.  There was no need to worry about how we would do or how other results might effect us, so we could just take it all as it came.
