Later

April 17th, 2009 · Comments Off on Later · Music

I’m looking forward to Friday’s Later With Jools Holland, having just caught up with Tuesday’s show on the V+ box.   The Doves, Madeleine Peyroux and Marianne Faithfull I can take or leave, but I was well impressed with the Noisettes and Rokia Traore. The Noisettes reminded me of CSS quite a bit, have surely the […]

The Force appears to be strong in Strathclyde Police

April 17th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Life

I love that quote from the editor of Jane’s Police Review in this story. Not sure why they were making a FOI request of police forces to say how many Jedis they have though.  Its either trivial waste of time, an abuse of the Freedom of Information Act or a Sith plot.

Probably not a serious website…

April 14th, 2009 · 9 Comments · Jane

A work colleague pointed me to the website of one of my favourite authors today. Jasper Fforde is an author of comic genius who should be made compulsory reading at English ‘A’ level. (Then the exams would be easy and fun!) I am currently enjoying Toad News http://www.jasperfforde.com/toad/nikon.html and can heartily recommend you do too!

Carole King

April 12th, 2009 · Comments Off on Carole King · Life, Music

I tuned in to Later With Jools Holland for the Specials and Franz Ferdinand, but found myself captivated by Carole King.   There are lots of gaps in my musical knowledge and experience, which I am setting about filling with Spotify, and one of them was very much Carole King-shaped.  Obviously I had heard the singles […]

Predictable

April 12th, 2009 · Comments Off on Predictable · Life

I had forgotten that I had read all about the book Predictably Irrational.  Indeed I had forgotten that it was on my Amazon wishlist, and even forgot that I wrote about it a year ago.    This week I bought it because it sounded interesting and as I started reading it something about it sounded familiar. […]

Good omen

April 10th, 2009 · Comments Off on Good omen · Life

West Ham are away to Spurs tomorrow.  Mark Lawrenson reckons Spurs will win 2-0. Good. With Lawro’s appaling record in predicting results we should be OK.   Last week he thought Liverpool would draw with Fulham (they won), West Brom would beat Stoke (they lost), Chelsea would draw against Newcastle (they won), Spurs would draw (they […]

Getting more stupid

April 9th, 2009 · Comments Off on Getting more stupid · Life, Technology

I had a perfect example this evening of how we are getting more stupid.   Or maybe its just me, in fact thinking about it, it probably is just me.   I have often reflected on how, if I was somehow transported back in time to occupy my own body twenty years ago I would be totally […]

Here’s looking at you kid

April 7th, 2009 · Comments Off on Here’s looking at you kid · Life, Technology

Well.  I’m excited by the news that Google’s camera cars have been spotted in Crawley.  Is it too much to hope that they will still be around over the Easter weekend so I can try and get myself in as many photos as possible?  I expect that if they do get as far as my […]

I want one

April 7th, 2009 · 3 Comments · Technology

A two seater Segway…   fantastic idea.  It would be improved by better mileage, but even as it is I could get to work and back for two days on a full charge.

Sisters make people happy

April 6th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Life

I should probably mention this before my eponymous sister does – one of the news stories that did catch my eye while I was offline.  Apparently, and I’m sure Mother would have no arguments with this, “Sisters spread happiness while brothers breed distress” according to ‘experts’.
